My students make short work of the spelling lists provided by our reading program. Even the “challenge words” are no challenge for the majority of my classes. I began incorporating homophones as spelling and vocabulary work.
420 Homophones
This list is now brimming with 420 homophones grouped in tens and (generally) ordered by difficulty. It features homophone pairs and triplets with simple vocabulary such as “be/bee” as well as more challenging words like “mustered/mustard” and “descent/dissent.”
Five Task Cards Included
I also developed a few creative tasks to go with the homophone list. These make great independent work activities and lead to some fun products.
- A Very Punny Jokebook
- A Misunderstanding
- Poetic Pun
- Double Homophone Sentences
- Homophone Restaurant
