It’s time for the 10th annual Byrdseed Year In Review! I continue to write these because I find them interesting to look back on. Maybe you’ll find it interesting too!
2021 has been a weird one. Here are my highlights:
- 🎂 Byrdseed.com turned 12 years old this summer!
- 🧽 I started a big re-organization of Byrdseed.com, attempting to sort my 100s of lesson examples. Still a work in progress!
- 0️⃣ I spoke at zero events (in person or virtual) for the second year in a row. I wrote about why I stopped speaking here.
- 📺 This year I added 130 new lessons, projects, and investigations Byrdseed.TV. Subscribers have grown 11× since I started really focusing on it in 2018!
- ❓ I’ve continued sending my Curiosities and Puzzlements Newsletter out every Friday. It’s on Year Seven now!
- 🏠 The Byrds spent a full year in our new, um, nest on the Oregon Coast. Mrs. Byrd has painted many walls, hammered many objects, and supervised the construction of a new deck — although we are still waiting on the roof.
- 👦 My son has grown from a toddler into a real kid. He’s developed a deep interest in Star Wars and Lego and, yes, Lego Star Wars. He’ll be four in a few months and is super fun to hang out with. And oh do I see a few of those intensities popping up!
- 💉 My wife and I are now triple vaccinated. But we’re eagerly awaiting vaccine approval for our kid.
- ㊗️ My quest to learn Japanese continues. I’ve managed to keep up a daily study and have learned about 900 kanji using the tool WaniKani. That puts me at almost halfway to a high school level of literacy! Yay?
- 📆 I’ve giving up trying to plan very far into the future, but I sure hope we’ll be able to take a real family trip in 2022. I’m definitely ready to show the boy a Disney park!
